New Experiences

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to breathe underwater? If you’d like to try scuba diving but aren’t ready for the full certification course or you’re on a tight schedule and can’t schedule the 3 days required for it, this is the course for you! Often referred to as the “resort dive” or a “discover scuba dive,” this intro dive gives you the ability to try diving without committing to a full class. You will learn about your gear and safety procedures before going out on a dive with your dedicated instructor. These intro dives can be done right from the shore or off our boat. These dives are limited to 4 divers to 1 instructor so you’ll be sure to have plenty of personal care and attention on what may be your first time breathing underwater!

Is Scuba Diving Safe?
Scuba diving is a safe activity when proper training, equipment, and safety protocols are followed. The scuba diving industry has stringent standards and regulations in place to ensure the safety of all divers.  At Seasport, your safety is our top priority.
How long is the Intro to SCUBA (PADI Discover Scuba Diving) course?
The Intro course can last from 2 ½ hours to half day depending on which experience you would like to have.  At Seasport, we offer intro courses of one to two dives from the shore at one of the most famous dive sites in Kauai, Koloa Landing.  We are also the only dive shop on Kauai to offer boat dives for our Intro students.  We highly encourage our guests to opt for the 2-tank boat dive for their intro course to get the most out of your experience.
Will I be certified after I complete the intro to SCUBA course?
While you will not be a certified PADI diver, the skills you perform in our confined water environment can be credited towards the first required course to become a certified PADI Open Water SCUBA Diver (OWSD). If you have the time, we certainly encourage you to jump right into the Open Water course as your certification is valid forever, and no additional fees are charged to keep your certification indefinitely.
I have a medical condition, can I still SCUBA dive?
Even with an existing medial condition, you may still be able to participate in our Intro to SCUBA diving course. Please review our medical waiver to determine your eligibility.  If you are not eligible based on the questionnaire you are not disqualified from participating.  Instead, consult your physician and determine whether your condition will be affected by SCUBA diving.  Your doctor can sign a waiver to allow you to dive with us on any of the Intro experiences.

PADI Discover Scuba Information
   Introduction to Scuba Diving

The course typically begins with a brief orientation session where one of our experienced instructors introduces you to the basic principles of scuba diving, including equipment use, safety procedures, and underwater communication. You'll also fill out all necessary forms and waivers, try on SCUBA gear for size and get ready to continue to your underwater journey.

   Pool or Confined Water Session

After the introduction, you will have the opportunity to practice several basic scuba skills in a controlled environment.  Seasport generally conducts their confined water session in a shallow ocean bay.  Under the guidance of the instructor, you will learn about the equipment used in scuba diving and how it operates, underwater breathing and techniques, equalization, mask clearing, and buoyancy control.

Open Water Dive & Boat Upgrade

After completing the confined water session, you will have the option to participate in an open water dive under the supervision of your instructor. At Seasport we offer a 1 or 2 tank shore dive experience at the famous Koloa Landing dive site.  We are also the only dive center on Kauai to offer a 2-tank boat dive to our intro students.  Whatever option you prefer, you can expect to see abundant sea life which may include Green Sea Turtles, Day Octopus, Morey Eels, Nudibranch, Rays, Schooling fish, and some extraordinary coral formations.
